When Arthur was still 2 yrs old - I spent almost my entire Christmas Eve sat on his bedroom floor trying to help him get to sleep as he was afraid of Father Xmas visiting our house!! I had a bit of time to kill, so I wrote this poem... I'm hoping that we don't have a repeat of it this year, but I am absolutely certain I wont be the only one if so....
Christmas Eve Poem for Parents
'Twas the night before Xmas and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse....
Toddlers don't count though, especially mine - he's frightened of Santa...
Lordy bring me the wine!
I've been sat in his room since early this eve,
holding his hand - he cries if I leave!
This bearded old guy who brings presents galore,
he's not an incentive - no not anymore.
"He needs a beard shave", "please keep him away",
"I don't want him here", "no Mummy please stay!"
The presents aren't wrapped, thanks to this failed Santa 'myth'
and I've not shaved my legs since December the 5th...
The kitchen's a mess, I'm desperate for the loo,
I'm not sure I can hold it as a mother of two
"Dear Santa, send help - these pockets are deep,
I'll pay what you want please just get him to sleep"
'Twas the night before Xmas and all through the land,
all the parents they whisper...
"this is not what we planned"...
