Summer Infant - By Your Bed Sleeper - Assembly, demonstration, review

We have been trying out the NEW Summer Infant By Your Bed Sleeper - the only bedside crib with an optional incline to help with reflux.

This review includes a video which shows our assembly of the product, and a talk through how to use the different features alongside our thoughts on the product itself...

Summer Infant By Your Bed Sleeper review and demonstration

Summer Infant : "Designed to make those first exhausting weeks of early parenthood a little bit easier, the by your bed sleeper is the only bedside crib with adjustable incline, ensuring your little one sleeps comfortably through the night. adjustable height allows you to keep baby right by your side, while still safely occupying his own space.
It's height adjustable frame and legs that simply slide under the bed allow baby to sleep right by their parents side while still occupying a safe space. The breathable mesh sides of the sleeper let parents see their baby easily whilst ensuring optimum air circulation for peace of mind. The By Your Bed Sleeper also features a soothing unit, to help ease little ones to sleep with vibrations, sounds and a soft glow nightlight. For additional soothing, the sleeper can be rocked manually, without parents getting out of bed"

The Summer Infant SwaddleMe By Your Bed sleeper:

Sounds great doesn't it? ... Especially if, like me, your little one suffers from reflux - having such an easy option as raising the head of the crib so that it is on an 11 degree incline to help ease digestion is genius. No more propping up the cot with books under the feet at one end!

You can see how easy this is to assemble and put together, and also view it in action in our youTube video (below). First, here is some more information on the summer Infant By Your Bed sleeper:

  • 1-position adjustable incline (11 degrees) safely elevates baby's head for easier breathing, better digestion and more comfortable sleep
  • Side-to-side rocking option allows parents to soothe baby without getting out of bed
  • Soothing unit includes 2-speed vibrations, 4 lullabies, 2 nature sounds, 1 heartbeat, 20 minute auto shut off timer and a white soft-glow nightlight
  • Adjustable height allows parents to keep baby right by their side at eye level, while still safely occupying his/her own space.
  • The crib legs slide under most beds to bring baby closer to parents which is particularly beneficial for breastfeeding and C-section mums.
  • Breathable mesh sides provide extra air circulation for baby’s comfort and parents peace of mind.
  • Suitable from birth until approximately 5 months when baby is showing signs of being able to pull up and sit up unaided.

Summer Infant By Your Bed Sleeper - newborn crib

Personal thoughts:

I love the neutral colours of this by the bed sleeper crib - it looks cool and calm, ready to help your baby relax and get ready for a good night sleep.

The manual rocking is a real plus point as both of my children love a bit of motion to soothe them to sleep. However, the side by side rocking of this bed did cause Charlotte to roll from side to side a little as she is only 5 weeks old - even with the lock of the swing in position (see video for more info). This was easily remedied by placing a baby sleeping pillow nest inside the crib (we used the Sleepy Head Deluxe pillow which fits perfectly - USA version here).

We have a very high bed - 58cm - and this 'by your bed sleeper' fitted perfectly on the highest setting. It is adjustable so can be made higher or lower depending on your bed and preference - this was a real plus point.

The feet fitted underneath our divan base bed with ease as there is a small space. If your bed is flush to the floor, you may struggle, but this is not a co-sleeper bed so having a short distance between the bed and the crib will still allow you to see your baby and swing the crib from side to side. If you intend to use the swing feature then it is actually better to have the crib slightly further away so that it doesn't knock into the bed.

The light, sound and vibrate option is a nice touch, but I personally felt that the vibration was far too noisy when attached to the metal bed frame. There may be ways to position this better with additional padding to minimise the noise, I think this one really comes down to personal preference.

I like the 'lock' option to minimise the swing on the By Your Bed Sleeper - however, there is a knack to 'unlocking' it with ease. Once you've figured it out, it's not an issue but it did take me a fair few attempts to utilise this function seamlessly.

Summer Infant By Your Bed Sleeper on an incline for reflux

Conclusion:

Overall, I think this is a brilliant product and so helpful for babies who struggle with reflux. Charlotte was really comfortable in this By Your Bed Sleeper once she was on the incline and the soothing music alongside the manual rocking helped her to nod off for a little nap - hoorah! It is nice to see a product on the market which takes into account how common it is for babies to suffer from reflux and wind and come up with an integrated solution.
